Preposition

Preposition memiliki arti "kata depan" dalam Bahasa Inggris. Preposisi jelas letaknya di depan kata benda untuk menunjukkan adanya kaitan tertentu.

Example :

1. They put the vegetables in the refrigerator.
2. Put your books on the desk!
3. She stands beside me.

Single Preposition (Preposisi Tunggal)
 in, on, after, before, for, from, of, in, out, over, at, through, to, off, till/until, under, up, with, without, via, front, by, about, beyond, etc.

Double Preposition (Preposisi Ganda)
against, into, onto, from, under, from among, from off, from within, over against, etc.

Phrase Preposition (Preposisi Frasa)
because of = karena
in front of = di depan
in behalf of = atas nama
for the sake of = demi
by reason = dengan alasan
in the event of = dalam acara
in view of = mengingat
in lieu of = sebagai pengganti
in consequence of = dalam konsekuensi dari
in opposition of = bertentangan dengan
in spite of = meskipun
on account of = karena
instead of = bukannya
on behalf of = atas nama
on the score of = pada skor
upon the subject of = pada subject
with a view of = dengan tampilan
with reference to = dengan refrensi
with regard to = berkenaan dengan
with relation to = berkaitan dengan
with respect to = sehubungan dengan
etc.

Penggunaan beberapa presposisi yang sering kita temui

at dipakai:
   -untuk tempat (kota kecil, desa, tempat jauh) : I spent my holiday at Malang.
   -untuk waktu : We usually leave for school at 06.45.
   -untuk usia : at fifteen/at the age of fifteen.
   -untuk kata tertentu : at cristmas, at Easter

in dipakai:
   -untuk tempat (negara, kota besar) : We live in Jakarta. We live in America.
   -untuk waktu : in afternoon, in the morning

on dipakai:
   -untuk hari dan tanggal : on sunday, on munday, on July 14th
   -untuk tempat : on the table, on the wall
   -untuk alamat yang lengkap : on Jln. Cokro no 2/ on thamrin street 09
   -untuk hari besar : on Lebaran Day, on Cristmas Day, on Independence Day
   -untuk ungkapan tertentu : go on foot, go on a bicycle, go on horseback, 

for dipakai:
   -untuk harga (nominal) : He buys a dictionary for Rp. 45. 000, 00
   -untuk periode waktu : The bakery baked for 30 minutes/ I traveled for 3 months
   -untuk ungkapan tertentu : I buy novel for my sister.
   -untuk maksud tertentu : for holiday, for vacation

on time, in time dipakai:
    -on time : sesuai dengan waktu yang direncanakan, tidak kurang dan tidak lebih.
                    The play started on time
                     I get to the meeting on time
    -in time  : ada spar waktu dari waktu yang direncanakan
                   I should be in time for theire train

by dipakai:
      -untuk transportasi : by car, by train, by sea, by air
      -untuk ungkapan kejelasan : I'll fix it by using something related to it.

of dipakai:
     -untuk menerangkan yg belum disebut halnya/bendanya : I give you some of my foods,
                                                                                                   it is because of you,
     -untuk menerangkan kejelasan kepemilikan : a friend of mine, a good manner of him, etc.

up memiliki arti atas, selain itu dipakai:
   -untuk memperjelas kata kerja : I make up another cake, I wake up early, etc.
