Compound vs Complex Sentences



A compound sentence consists of two or more independent clauses. The connectors/conjunctions are For, and, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS).

Examples:
  1. I have to cook some cake, for my friends comes to my house. (conjunction for lebih ke arti karena)
  2. Diana buys a new book and Ariel buys a new bag.
  3. Max maintained that the database needed restructuring, but Laura disagreed.
  4. They confuse to wear a black t-shirt or the blue t-shirts.
  5. It was raining hard; yet, he did not go to school. (Yet=sehingga)
  6. All family chose to picnic to beach so they went to beach altogether.
Dependence clause is a clause consist without Subject, or without verb with no dot (.).
 Ex: The school located in Malibu
       before they come
Independence clause is a clause consists of Subject and verb without dot (.)
Ex: My family left me
      I will go
      She gives me

A Complex Sentence consists of one independent and one or more dependent clauses. The subordinator in complex sentence are because, since, after, although, as, when also that, who and which. 

Structure : Independent clause + Conjunction + dependent clause.
                 Conjunction + dependent clause + koma (,) +Independent clause.

Examples:
  1. When he handed in his homework, he forget to give the teacher the first page.
  2. The teacher returned the homework after she noticed the error.
  3. All students are studying because tomorrow they will have exam.
  4. I do not know who those men are.
  5. She reads a new novel that she bought yesterday. 
  6. Mia should respect Nadia since Nadia is older than her.
    (conjunction since lebih ke arti karena)
  7. Before my dad gone, he showed me many thing to learn.  
  8. My mom is busy while I am watching tv. 
  9. He always gets a good score although he rarely studies.
  10. The little sister loves her white doll which is bought by uncle Donny.  
  11. As Niana played the game, she caught her battery was low.
 Exercise:
